This is a map of the North Branch Trail in Chicago. I'm going to bike this and see how far I can go. Ideally I will set up an entire day and pack a lunch with some friends for this. did it a few years ago but made a triangle up to the botanic gardens then down via the green bay trail back to caldwell woods.
you should also try the des plaines river trail from roughly half day to the wisconsin border along 41
